Where you going? Barcelona ....oh.
Hi All, decided it was time to sit down and plunk out another Rick blog, so here I am.
Last week at Thick Tuesday my "acting for singers" class presented a number of songs and scenes. Beth Cooper and I did "Barcelona" from Company, the musical. Very nice comedy song. It went off very well. Was very pleased with it and the audience also seemed to like it very much. Loved being able to encorporate interacting with another person on stage while singing. That particular piece is disceptively tricky to do. It's all about timing and getting across the wonderful lyrics and meanings and dynamics of the characters. I believe we were pretty successful.
I look forward to being able to do more of that...which got me to thinking more about theater and musicals and auditioning. So I have been looking through Theater Bay Area, our local who's who monthly magazine of what's happening in the area and have noticed a number of auditions that "came up" in October...missed them..sigh. But am hopeful to now get in the flow of things and get my headshot and resume (skimpy as it may be at this point) out there and circulating.
Jen, a wonderful singer/performer in my class had mentioned a performance of Tapestry, Carole King songs from the album of the same name, that is going to be happening in San Jose and apparently auditions will be going on. Jen has an audition. (Break a leg, Jen!) I have emailed the manager of the project, tks to Jen, and hope to hear something from her soon.
Gees, Tapestry was the very first album I ever got as a kid. (Is that dating me. Oh well.) My big brother bought it for me for christmas one year. I treasured it greatly. Learned every song and sang it regularly...in my bedroom.;-)
Would be neat to be apart of a show that revolves around that album, even if it is all the way down in San Jose. I went to the library and spent a couple of hours copying sheet music for a number of songs from the album. I can see myself singing "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" or "Tapestry" or "You've Got A Friend" or "Home Again" or "So Far Away" or "It's Too Late" or even "Smackwater Jack" or "I Feel the Earth Move"...
Okay, I could picture me singing the whole album. hee hee.
It's funny though. These past few weeks I have felt so much in "hybernating" mode. Having a cold for a part of that didn't help.
There is so much I want to accomplish and, on one hand, am very impatient with my "process" and, on the other hand, have been having a very hard time getting any momentum going.
Time to FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS...
